Railay Viewpoint Resort

Overview

Railay is reached only by boat, and staying overnight means you get its limestone walls and beaches after the day-trippers have gone back to Ao Nang. Railay Viewpoint Resort is one of the places to do that, set among tropical gardens on the peninsula.

Rooms are decorated in a traditional Thai style and come with a private balcony looking over the greenery. Inside, they're air-conditioned, with satellite TV and a minibar.

When you're back from a climb or a swim, there's an outdoor pool ringed by plants and a massage room on site.

Location

The resort is at Railay, the cliff-ringed peninsula between Ao Nang and Krabi Town. Longtail boats from Ao Nang Beach are the usual way in and take only a few minutes, while boats from the Krabi Town side take longer.

The peninsula is known for its sport climbing routes, for Phra Nang beach and its cave shrine, and for a small car-free village of restaurants and bars. Everything on Railay is reached on foot.

Good to know

• There's no road to Railay, so travel light: bags go on and off longtail boats, sometimes with a wade at low tide.
• Boat times depend on the weather and tides, particularly in the rainy season.
