Overview
The Mud takes its eco credentials seriously enough to put them in its name: it calls itself The Mud – Eco Hotel, and the design draws on natural materials and surroundings. It sits a few steps from Bang Makham Beach.
Rooms are air-conditioned, with a flat-screen TV and a balcony. Outside there's a garden and a terrace with views, and the restaurant cooks dishes inspired by local food.
Breakfast comes in three styles, buffet, à la carte or Asian, all made with fresh local produce.

Location
Bang Makham is a quiet bay on the north-west coast, a short drive north of Nathon. The property gives Fisherman's Village as 14 km away and the Big Buddha as 19 km, so the busier north-east is a trip rather than a stroll.
Sunsets here are over the sea, and the coast road makes the island's west side easy to explore by scooter.
Address HW7F+GCX, 4169, Tambon Ang Thong, Ko Samui District, Surat Thani 84140, Thailand
Good to know
- Your own transport helps; this side of the island is spread out.
- The Humble Villas, also listed here, are a near neighbour.
