See today's offersPuerto Rico packs a lot into an island roughly 160 km long. Our listings start in San Juan, with a guest house inside the walls of the old Spanish city and a hostel in Santurce, and then head west, where the pace slows and the coastline gets wilder.
On the west coast, Rincón and Aguada are known for surf, sunsets and laid-back beach towns. Arecibo's stretch of the north coast is rugged and dramatic, and inland Maricao sits in the green, coffee-growing mountains. Each place is listed below by town, so you can compare stays that suit the trip you have in mind.

See today's offersPuerto Rico is a US territory, so the same entry rules apply as for the mainland United States: most UK visitors need an approved ESTA or a US visa. The currency is the US dollar.
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, just east of San Juan, handles most flights. Rafael Hernández Airport in Aguadilla also has some mainland US routes and is handy for the west coast. Outside the capital, a hire car is close to essential. Note that road distances are signed in kilometres but speed limits are in miles per hour.
Old San Juan suits a city break on foot, with forts, plazas and restaurants on its doorstep. For beaches and surf, the west around Rincón and Aguada is the better bet, especially in winter when the big swells arrive. The mountains of the interior are for slow drives, hiking and coffee farms.
It's warm all year. December to April is usually the driest and busiest period. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, so keep an eye on forecasts and check your travel insurance if you go then.
In Old San Juan you can manage on foot and by taxi. To explore the west coast, the north-coast caves or the mountains, a hire car makes life much easier, as public transport between towns is limited.
Rincón is best known for its powerful winter waves, which suit experienced surfers, but surf schools in the area teach beginners on gentler breaks, and summer is usually calmer.
Yes. La Parguera, on the south-west coast, is reachable from the west and the mountains, and there are others on the east of the island and on Vieques. Trips run after dark, and the glow is best on moonless nights.
